Nurburgring lap record for Range Rover
There is great news from Range Rover: the Sport SVR has completed a lap of the famous Nordschleife track at the Nurburgring in Germany in eight minutes fourteen seconds. This lap time officially makes the Sport SVR the quickest SUV production model around the Nurburgring and the very impressive result was achieved using a standard production model of the powerful company flagship.
The Sport SVR made a dramatic debut at the Festival of Speed at Goodwood before returning to Nurburgring to continue its extensive test schedule. This model has an uprated version of the V8 5.00-litre supercharged engine and can delivers 40PS more than the current V8 Supercharged version, bringing the figure to 550PS.
Mike Cross, Range Rover's chief engineer for vehicle integrity, said: "The Nürburgring is a benchmark for vehicle development and testing, and cars become stronger, more durable and faster over its 13 miles and 70-plus corners. We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment. The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities."
Development work for the Sport SVR has been completed by the special vehicle team at Jaguar Land Rover, with the aim being to produce a more performance-focused Sport than any previous model. The company wanted to do this without any detrimental effect to the vehicle's all-terrain capabilities, which are already class leading.
The new model has a twin-speed transfer case, which provides the driver with the choice of either low or high gear ratio, and the 850mm wading depth of other Sport models.
We are looking forward to 2015, which is when the Sport SVR will arrive in the showrooms.
