Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe gets V-12 power
German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz's top-of-the-range S-Class Coupe, the S65, will be equipped with a V12 twin-turbo petrol 6.0-litre engine. The engine delivers 630PS and has 1,000Nm of torque.
The rear wheels get their power via an automatic seven-speed gearbox, which allows the driver to switch between Manual and Sport modes. Mercedes has not yet confirmed the price, but it is expected to be around £200,000.
The performance of the S65 AMG is remarkably good. Accelerating from 0-62 miles per hour takes a commendable 4.1 seconds and the car can then carry on to a top limited speed of 155mph. Without having its top speed limited, the S65 would be able to reach a speed approaching 190mph.
The 23.7 miles per gallon is not particularly exciting if you are comparing this beast of a motor to the Mercedes economy hatchback; however, it does not look too bad when you consider that the engine is a V12. CO emissions are 279g/km, which means that the S65 AMG is in the highest VED group.
The S65 AMG, as you would expect for a car that costs around £200,000, comes with a shed-load of technology, including Magic Body Control and Road Surface Scan. This combined software system analyses and pre-empts the suspension to deal with each road surface that the car encounters. Another useful feature of this innovative system is that it lessens corner body rolling.
This model wears AMG styling and comes with 20-inch alloys, nappa leather upholstery and electronically-adjustable seating.
