Mercedes opens order book for B-Class
The good news is that Mercedes has just opened the order book for the B-Class Electric Drive in the UK as an early Christmas present to electric motor enthusiasts. The new model will be divided into two lines: Electric Art and Sport.
The B-Class has the capability of travelling distances of up to 142 miles without the need to recharge and can accelerate from 0-62mph in a credible 7.9 seconds. This type of performance level is achieved as a result of its 180hp and its 340 NM torque generated by a highly-efficient and state-of-the-art electric motor.
For people considering buying one of these exciting new models, the price starts at £31,950 for a Sport model. The Electric Art is slightly higher at £32,245; however, don't forget that an OLEV (Office of Low Emission Vehicles) grant can be applied if you own an electric vehicle. This will bring down the prices considerably, with the Sport reduced to £26,950 and the Electric Art to £27,245.
Interesting features of the Sport include a unique bumper design, LED running lights, 17-inch alloys, cruise control, and reversing camera. The Sport is available in a choice of eight colours.
The Electric Art also has some interesting features, such as contrasting radiator grille and mirror elements, 18-inch two-tone alloys and climate control.
The batteries for the B-Class are conveniently placed under the floor to maintain optimum boot and cabin space.
The car was designed jointly with Tesla and can be charged from home in around nine hours.
