Introducing the Mercedes S-Class 2014
The 2014 Mercedes S-Class is now on sale, with prices starting from £62,650. Three engine and two trim options are on offer.
The S350 Bluetec diesel has a V6 engine and can accelerate from 0-62 in 6.8 seconds. The S400 Hybrid has a combined electric and V6 petrol engine, which also takes it from 0-62 in 6.8 seconds. The top-range model is the S500, which costs £88,130. Its twin-turbo V8 engine offers an acceleration speed of 0-62 in 4.8 seconds.
In terms of fuel economy, the diesel will give its driver 51.4 mpg, while the hybrid and V8 will offer 44.8mpg and 31.7 mpg, respectively. The engines have been designed to meet the EU6 standard for emissions and are rear-wheel driven, using a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Each model in the range has been electronically limited to a maximum speed of 155mph.
LED lighting, DAB digital radio and a reversing camera are included as standard across the range. Mercedes highlights the fact that the new thin-film transistor (TFT) screens are the most sophisticated in the world. Optional extras include Magic Body Control, which examines the road ahead and dampens each wheel to adjust to varying conditions on the road.
The S350 is now available on short and long wheelbases, while the other two models are long-wheelbase models only.
