Happy birthday to the Mercedes G-Class
German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes is celebrating the 35th birthday of its G-Class and has launched two new G-Class Edition 35 models in homage to the old-timer. The G350 BlueTEC Edition 35 and the G500 Edition 35 are fitted out with small changes in styling to bring them in line with modern standard models.
On the outside the new models have been given metallic black detailing on the mirrors, roof and the lining of the wheel arches, with the front and back bumpers also receiving the metallic treatment. Black is also the theme for the paint-job on the five-spoke 18-inch wheels. The Edition 35 cars will have flared wheel arches and a chrome radiator grille, with the G500 also acquiring a sports exhaust system.
Inside, the upholstery can be ordered in either plain black leather or a rather beautiful two-tone black and porcelain finish; whichever trim is chosen, the dashboard will be finished in leather and piano black trim. The package is completed by an AMG steering wheel.
Even though Mercedes has tweaked the look of the car, it has not altered the output of the engines. Peak power is 211hp for the G350's 3.0-litre V6 engine and 388hp for the G500's V8 engine. Edition 35 is available in a choice of black, white or silver, and prices start at €84,900 (just over £67,000) for the G350 and €94,800 (just under £75,000) for the G500.
