Three new BMW hybrids to make debut at Frankfurt
It appears that the motoring world is in for a treat this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with German luxury car maker BMW debuting three hybrid models. These variants of the 2-, 3- and 7-Series will all appear in UK showrooms in 2016.
The new hybrid models are the 225xe, 330e and 740e, and BMW hopes that the introduction of these models will have a significant impact on this lucrative and expanding sector. They will also add to what the company currently has on offer, which includes the exciting i8 and the X5 xDrive40e SUV. The company has already stated that more of the same is on the way over the next 12 months. The 225xe Active Tourer will utilise the i8's plug-in hybrid technology and will have a 1.5-litre petrol engine alongside the electric motor. This combination will produce 221bhp and the car will be able to travel for around 25 miles on electric power.
The 330e has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which along with the electric motor will deliver 248bhp. Great features of this model include the return of up to 148mpg and miniscule CO2 emission of 44g/km.
Top of the range of this trio is the 740e, which comes with either a long or a standard wheelbase. This performance car has the same drivetrain as the X5, a 2.00-litre engine combined with an electric motor, and delivers up to 134.5mpg.
