BMW's X6 M is as quick as the M3
The X6 BMW crossover SAV has just been given a high-performance version in the shape of the X6 M, which produced some pretty impressive performance statistics when put through its paces at the Nurburgring. Anybody who assumed that the M version would offer nothing more than a tweaked petrol engine and stiffened suspension system should think again. BMW M project manager Herbert Bayerl claims that this performance SAV was as quick as the M3 coupe on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Although the German luxury car manufacturer did not give any details about the actual time for the X6 M, we do have the time for the M3. If the X6 M is as fast as the last-generation M3 coupe, this would mean a lap time of a pretty quick eight minutes five seconds.
Statistically speaking, this would mean that the new X6 M is around 20 seconds faster than its predecessor.
The new X6 M has a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo under the bonnet, which can produce 567hp (423kW) and 750Nm (553lb-ft) of torque. The car has an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission that sends its power to the xDrive AWD system.
When it comes to acceleration, the X6 M is no slouch, and figures reveal that from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) can be achieved in a highly commendable 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the car has been limited electronically to 155mph (250km/h).
