BMW wins reliability award

German car manufacturer BMW is the luxury brand with the fewest defects and the best reliability. This conclusion was arrived at after around five million inspections were undertaken by the Gesellschaft fuer Technische Ueberwachung (GTUe).

As recognition of the high standards BMW sets itself, the Stuttgart-based inspection organisation has awarded the company its top accolade: the GTUe Quality Trophy 2014.

GTUe evaluated the technical condition of cars between one and three years old and analysed the data it received to identify the efficiency and reliability of each vehicle. The prize for quality is awarded purely on the results of this analysis.

Amongst the BMW models that were particularly praiseworthy were the 5-Series and the 1-Series, which had some extremely impressive results. The outstanding vehicle in the sports car/convertible category was the Z4, which rated top for the first general inspection. All the results will appear in the GTUe used car guide, which is published annually, and in car magazine Auto Zeitung.

GTUe managing director Rainer de Biasi, who was at the award ceremony, heaped praise on the fantastic technical quality of BMW and the first-class service it provides.

BMW board member Dr Herbert Diess accepted the award.

The Quality Trophy was introduced by Auto Zeitung and GTUe to recognise vehicles of outstanding quality and reliability. The 27th Auto Trophy was presented at the Hamburg Cruise Centre in Altona.
