BMW launches the i8 customiser in the US
2015 will see the US arrival of the impressive i8 after several years of indecision about whether the model would be launched there. The luxury hybrid, which BMW hopes will capture a piece of the lucrative American market, will come with an online presence already available in the UK. This presence takes the form of the customiser, which has recently gone live and presents potential customers with hours of fun deciding how they would like their car to look.
- In the same way that the configurator for the BMW i3 had World feature levels that BMW used instead of the more traditional trims, the i8 comes in four World levels. The basic Mega World model is followed by Giga World, which has the addition of 20-inch turbine wheels.
- LED tailgates and headlights.
- Black or white interior.
A $2,000 premium on the basic model, which costs $136,650.Tera World costs an extra $3,000 on top of the manufacturer's recommended retail price (MRRP); for this you get a unique dalbergia brown cabin and BMW i blue seatbelt.
The top-of-the-range i8 is the Pure Impulse World, which costs an extra $10,000 above the MRRP. This model has carum grey spice leather inside, along with an anthracite headliner. The German luxury car manufacturer hopes that the online customiser will be a big hit in the American market, as customers can identify which features and style are essential to enhance their BMW driving experience.
