BMW delivers the M40i crossover
BMW has been extremely successful in the crossover segment of the luxury car market. The latest variant released by the company is the M40i, which is the latest version of the sporty X4. The car does not have full-blown M performance credentials but has been developed to offer more than you would normally get from standard models. The M40i is powered by a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-litre inline-six, with a crankshaft of forged steel, improved crankshaft bearings, new piston rings, and high-power spark plugs. With an increase in power for the turbocharger, the M40i delivers an enhanced performance. The new maximum power delivery is 355bhp (between 5,800-6,000rpm) with 343lb/ft from 1,350-5,250rpm. The result is pretty impressive acceleration from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed that has been electronically limited to 155mph. Fuel economy quoted by BMW is a frugal 32.8mpg, although people will not be purchasing this car for economical motoring. Emission levels are 199g/km.
Performance is enhanced with the Steptronic eight-speed automatic transmission, launch control and paddle shifters, which are mounted on the steering wheel. All-wheel drive comes as standard and there is also Performance Control, which is used to distribute torque between the rear wheels.
Inside the cabin there is the usual high-tech gadgetry you would expect from BMW, with safety features such as city braking and active cruise control. The exterior of this model is certainly designed to turn heads and sees the addition of an exclusive metallic colour called Long Beach Blue.
All in all, this is a terrific looking car that packs a punch.
