The BMW Racing-spec 2-Series available to Racing Teams

The BMW Racing-spec 2-Series will be available to private racing teams at a price of €59,500 (just under £49,000).  It has a 3.0-litre straight-six engine based on the production-spec M235i; however, the power has been pushed up to 328bhp.

The BMW M235i Racing made its debut at the Motor Speedway event in Las Vegas.  As with the road version, the Racing edition has ABS, traction control and DSC; however, it has the add-on of a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Other additions to the Racing edition include rear and front end spoilers, a new diffuser, and wing mirrors made from carbon.  There is also a Racing-spec fuel tank and a certified FIA racing safety cell.

The German car manufacturer says that it expects its new model to be used in the entry-level racing series, which include the VLN Endurance Championship, the BMW Sports Trophy and the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

Jens Marquardt, BMW's motorsport chief, said: "The production models from the BMW M Performance Automobiles range are already incredibly sporty. Because of this, we did not have to make many modifications in order to get the BMW M235i Coupé up and running as a racing car. BMW Motorsport can look back on a long tradition of allowing ambitious teams and drivers an affordable way into motor racing - and of offering them an absolutely competitive car."
