A brief look at the BMW Z4
If you have forgotten what the sheer joy of getting behind the wheel of a luxury car and just driving for the sake of it feels like, you haven't driven the Z4. Say what you want about BMW but the luxury German car maker knows how to produce vehicles that are fun to drive. If we get past all the fancy digital toys that all cars have these days, just how many car makers deliver a vehicle that ticks all the boxes for performance? The Z4 certainly does this.
The Z4 is a two-seater convertible that comes with a retractable hard-top roof. Other than new colour options, BMW has not changed the 2015 model and it is almost the same as the 2009 version. There are three engine choices: the sDrive28i, sDrive35i and sDrive35is.
The design of the car does not look old, even though it has been around six years; in fact, the Z4, with its long sloping top, has a roadster, retro look that many will find appealing. The 28i has a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.00-litre engine that delivers 240hp and 260lb of torque. It returns 25mpg, but people who buy this vehicle do not do so because it is economical. The closest competitors to the Z4 would be either a Porsche Boxster or the rather basic Nissan 370z.
The Z4 may not be as wild as the Boxster; however, when you get behind the wheel and take it onto the open road, you will experience a satisfying and controlled drive.
