The Audi S3 is the best yet
Priced at £33,580, the Audi S3 saloon is very fast, grips the road beautifully and is well constructed. As with any car there are minor issues, and with this model perhaps one such issue is the entertainment factor; however, for people looking for something that looks good, but doesn't turn heads, the S3 is great for everyday use, is economical, and performs in all types of weather conditions. With all these factors in its favour, do you really need the 'wow' factor?
If you are open to buying a hatch, the S3 Sportback and the S3 hatchback give the same performance levels but cost less. Dan Prosser, the road test editor for motoring magazine evo, said: "The new S3 saloon rights many previous Audi wrongs, with crisp steering and a supple ride. It's not perfect though, and despite its similarity under the skin to the Volkswagen Golf R, it somehow falls short of delivering the engaging driving characteristics that make that car great."
Good but not great may suit a lot of people who are not looking for thrills but simply want something that delivers good economy and has plenty of infotainment features. This is an all-wheel turbocharged car with the option of an S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, and the ride is better than many earlier and faster Audis.
If you are looking for thrills, then buy a VW Golf, which shares the same drivetrain; however, if you want a model that is probably the best-looking A3 when it comes to body style, then the S3 is the one for you.
