International design accolades for Audi
With fierce competition between the top luxury car makers, winning an award can make a lot of difference when customers have to decide which brand to choose. German car giant Audi is in the enviable position of having swept the board at the Automotive Brand Contest, the global design competition for cars.
The company's TT won first prize in the Innovation of the Year category, while the A8's Matrix LED headlights came first in the Best of the Best category. Prof Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, board of management member for technical development at Audi AG, said: "The Audi TT is a design icon and a top-performance driving machine. With the new generation we are making technology even more tangible for the driver - just as you would expect in a genuine sports car." Audi is celebrating the international debut of the TT Roadster and the TTS Roadster at the Paris Motor Show, with exciting innovations on display including the Audi virtual cockpit and the Matrix LED lights. The company had already used the new LED technology in 2013 in the A8 luxury saloon.
Company design chief Marc Lichte was pleased with the awards, especially as they were awarded by such a prestigious organisation. He added that Audi had also won awards for its A3 saloon, the allroad shooting brake and the designer armchair, with the latter being the result of a pooling of ideas between Audi design technicians, furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau, and Walter de Silva.
