Audi reveals its armoured car in Frankfurt

There was a quiet air of confidence at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the A8 L Security saloon was revealed, and it's Audi's most advanced armoured vehicle ever. The company is confident that its new-generation armoured vehicle has enough reinforcements to endure even the most vicious of attacks. This is a real-world version of a James Bond car and has been designed to survive explosions, armour piercing bullets, and extinguish its own flames.

The A8 has the ability to cope with a hand grenade attack thanks to its aluminium sides and armour-plated floor. The glass in the vehicle is also very special and has been made using a multi-layer construction with a splinter-inhibiting polycarbonate layer on the inside of the rear, front and side windows.

The enhanced technology that has been put into this vehicle should instil its passengers with confidence. Occupants can talk to the outside world via state-of-the-art communications or escape using a button to remove one of the doors. The heat sensor-activated fire extinguisher system is integrated into the underbody to douse any possibility of a fire near the fuel tank, and the car has its own air supply in case of a gas attack.

The ability to escape a dangerous situation has been enhanced by the fact that the A8 can accelerate to 62mph in just 7.1 seconds and can continue its journey even if the tyres are flat.
