Audi launches TT Offroad Concept

German luxury car manufacturer Audi has enlarged its TT sports car model range by launching its latest concept. The TT Offroad Concept was revealed by the company at the Beijing Auto Show.

The new concept, which is a plug-in-hybrid, has two electric motors with an output of 406bhp. Audi claims that the concept has the capability to return 148mpg and can accelerate from 0- 62 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds, which is highly commendable.

The TT Offroad Concept can travel 30 miles solely in EV mode; when combined with the 2.00-litre four-cylinder TFSI engine, it has a range of 546 miles. Audi plans to release several crossovers under the TT name.

Before committing itself to production, Audi wants to get a feel for the initial reaction to the TT Offroad Concept.  If the reaction is positive, there is the possibility that a three-door Allroad Shooting Brake model will also be introduced.

Audi board member Prof Dr Ulrich Hackenberg said: "The Audi TT Offroad Concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family. It combines the sporty genes of the TT with the strengths of a compact Audi SUV."
